Carrie Scheffer

Carrie Scheffer, 87, of Brenham, died June 12, 2013, in High Hope Care Center of Brenham. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill with Pastor Kris Brower officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Scheffer was born January 12, 1926, in the Prairie Hill community of Washington County, TX, to Theo and Clara Schulz Schramme. She was baptized March 9, 1926 and confirmed May 5, 1940 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Gogolin. She was educated at Prairie Hill School. On October 10, 1946, she was married to Edward Scheffer in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville by Pastor Wm. Feller. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Scheffer was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, where she was chairman of memorials, sang in the choir and was a member of the Women of the Church. Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Edward Scheffer of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Frances Scheffer of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Michael Gajeske of Brenham; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Scheffer of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Burney and Edna Schramme of Brenham; six grandchildren; Jamie Ahrens, Stephen and Deanna Scheffer, Brian and Shelley Scheffer, Charles and Jennifer Gajeske, Sarah Scheffer and special friend Brandon Mueller, and Allen and Robin Gajeske; and seven great-grandchildren, Courtney Andersen, Sterling and Stratton Scheffer, Brayden Scheffer, and Lyann, Tyler and Bynten Gajeske. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James Scheffer, and two infant brothers. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. All nieces, nephews and the card playing group will be considered honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church organ fund or Hospice Brazos Valley-Brenham.
