Cecil was born in Brenham, Texas on January 1, 1956 to Cecil and Florence Hammer (Malinowski). He was a 1974 graduate of Brenham High School. During his High School days, he worked at Brenham airport, Western Auto and Gibson’s. He continued his career with Southwestern Bell in Brenham, starting as a Telephone Operator and transferring to be a Cable Splicer. He retired from AT&T after 36 years.
Cecil met the love of his life on a blind date at the Angleton County Fair in September of 1977. They married on July 18, 1980 in Houston, Texas.
Cecil was a lifelong member of Brenham’s First Baptist Church, where he volunteered many of his hours working in the sound booth with the Audio/Visual Department. He also volunteered many hours to First Baptist Church School working on the computers and any issues with the internet.
Cecil was a great man, husband, father and Papaw to Kinsley. He loved spending time with his daughter, Staci, and his son, Kevin. He enjoyed working on various projects. You could find him most days at his place in the country, gardening, fixing cars, and watching the sunset with his wife.
His greatest joy was being a Papaw to his granddaughter, Kinsley. He loved watching her play volleyball and never missed a game. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Lisa Hammer; daughter, Staci Dakus and husband Jon, son Kevin Hammer and Camden. Grandchild Kinsley Dakus. Sisters, Cindy Foerster and husband Rodney, Mary Ann Jackson; brother, Bobby Hammer and wife Jeannie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Florence Hammer. Brother-in-law, Les Jackson.
Serving as pallbearers for Cecil are Kevin Hammer, Jon Dakus, Rodney Foerster and Dr. Leo Pena.A visitation is planned for Wednesday June 12, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 7a.m. – 7 p.m. with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday June 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 304 North Market St., Brenham, Texas with burial to follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery
