Cecil Douglas Watts, 87, of Brenham, passed away Tuesday June 14, 2011 at Scott & White Hospital. Cecil was born to Charles E. and Grace Kelly Watts on December 6, 1923, in Seminary Mississippi. Cecil had many wonderful gifts and everyone who knew him enjoyed his company. He cherished his memories of growing up in Seminary, Mississippi and was known for his quick wit and telling stories of growing up with his older brother "Snookie", many aunts, uncles and cousins. His family and friends were delighted with his stories and his wonderful sense of humor . Cecil served in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1948, Cecil married Ruth Lee Watts in Hattiesburg, MS. Soon after, they relocated to Houston, TX and raised three children. Cecil retired from American General Insurance Company in 1988. Cecil loved country music with a passion and as a young man, played the fiddle. Up until recent years, he could still do a mean two-step. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family at his weekend home in La Grange. In 2000, He and his wife, Ruth moved to Brenham. He continued to make friends and recall his memories through his gift of story-telling. He will be remembered by many by the red hat he would wear on many occasions. Cecil delighted in playing Santa Claus at the Chappell Hill Teddy Bear Parade and once dressed as Uncle Sam for the 4th of July parade in Chappell Hill. He was a true delight to all he met. He will be missed by all who knew him. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Watts and his beloved wife of 53 years Ruth Lee Watts; older brother Charles "Snookie" Watts who passed away one day before Cecil, and we know they are all together once again. Cecil is survived by daughters, DeDe Eastveld and husband Gary of Brenham, Becky Comeaux and husband Mitch of Spring, TX, son Lucas Watts of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Lisa Eastveld Hook and Husband Tom, of Brenham; Allan Eastveld and fiancée, Lana Buchanan of Brenham , TX ; Kelly Comeaux of Spring, TX and 4 great-grandchildren, Lauren Ruth Hook, Lindsey Lee Hook, Gaige Allan Eastveld and Gavin Allan Eastveld. He is also survived by sister-in-law Lottie Watts and neice Cheyrle Peeples and nephews Gary and Jerry Watts all of MS. Cecil was a charter member of Spring Branch Presbyterian Church in Houston, TX and most recently a member of Brenham Presbyterian Church. Services will be conducted at Memorial Oaks Chapel at 2 pm, Thursday, June 16th, with Reverend Ed Triem and Reverend Brent Hampton Officiating. Visitation will be 6-8pm at Memorial Oaks chapel. Burial to follow at Prairie Lea . Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allan Eastveld, Tom Hook, Mike Darden, Mitch Comeaux, Charlie Witte and very special friend Dave Brown. Memorials can be made to Brenham Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
