After relocating to Brenham, Everts attended air conditioning school, and then worked for Sears. The family eventually moved to Burton, and for the past 16 years, he was employed by Brenham I.S.D. in the maintenance department.

Everts coached soccer, and was active in Boy Scouts for many years. He loved to participate in barbecue and chuck wagon cook-offs. Hunting and camping were favorite hobbies, and he treasured time spent with his grandkids, family, and his many friends. Everts was a member of the Washington County fair chuckwagon team and also the Sourdough Cookers chuckwagon team with Gary Buchanan. He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Brenham.

Everts is survived by his wife, Michelle; sons and daughters-in-law Clayton and Janae Dees of Schulenburg, and Jason and Cheslyn Dees of Weimer; mother, Wanda Dees; brother and sister-in-law David and Janet Dees of Copperas Cove; grandchildren: Jonathan, Layne, and Raini Dees; Austin and Jason (J.J.)
