Charles Kenneth Smith, Jr., 84, passed away August 16, 2008 at his residence in Brenham, surrounded by his family. Mr. Smith was born November 23, 1923 in Houston, Texas to Charles K. Smith Sr. and Louise Hawkins. He was baptized in 1935 at the West End Baptist Church in Houston and educated in Sam Houston High School in Houston. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps. On June 26, 1964, he married Billie Nell Renfrow in Houston. Mr. Smith was a member of Country Bible Church, where he served as a deacon and song director. He was a HOSTS mentor at Alton Elementary School and was a Community Education teacher. He was a plumber for 64 years and served as past president of Plumbers Local Union 68. Mr. Smith loved farming, animals and pets. Survivors include his wife Billie Nell Smith of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kari Smith of Greenvine, George and Judy Savelle of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Howard Keeling of Branch, Fabian Swartz of Brenham, Debbie and David Foyt of Sargent, and Susan and Steve Mabee of New Braunfels; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Margaret Smith of Garland; grandchildren: Kelly, Lance, Billie Ann, Ali, Katie, Courtney, Billy, Amy, Brad, Stefanie, Mark and Ron; great-grandchildren, Grant, Jack, Wesley, Julianne, Hannah, Abigail, Lydia, Elise, Luke, Joshua, Alaina, Cole, Jonathan, Wyatt, Riesa, Emma, Peyton, Hailey, Austin and Allie. He was preceded in death by his first wife Julia Page, mother Louise Bullock, and father Charles Smith, Sr. Funeral service for Charles Smith will be Tuesday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Michael J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Country Bible Church, 3550 Willam B. Travis Lane, Brenham, Texas 77833. Pallbearers are: Garth Griffith, Charles Morgan, Pete Mauney, Craig Lesser, Keith Twiggs, Brad Roberts, John Hare, and Joe Robertson.
