Charlie E. Rodenbeck, 90, the husband of Bernice Dippel Rodenbeck, passed away August 22, 2014 in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Charlie was born December 5, 1923 in Brenham, the son of Charlie and Lydia Lueck Rodenbeck. Baptized Dec. 26, 1923 in the home of his grandparents, he was confirmed Sept. 5, 1935 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. Charlie was educated in the Cedar Hill School. He served in the U. S. Air Force from Feb. 1943 to August 1945, in the European Theater. On Jan. 5, 1947, he was married to the love of his life, Bernice Dippel at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church by Rev. Theo Strang. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bernice; children: Brenda and husband Ron Stone of Howe, Texas; Carl and wife Deanna of Zachary, LA.; grandchildren: Amanda and husband Jason Grosze, Megan and fiancé Luke Atchley, and Connor Rodenbeck. He is also survived by a brother, Elton Rodenbeck; in-laws Alvin Dippel, Delores Winkelmann and husband LeeRoy, Dorothea Dippel, Janice Kapner and husband Sidney, Elaine Dippel, and Melvin Schaefer. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Lonnie, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin and Dorothy Mae Rodenbeck, and Melvin and Martha Rodenbeck; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Elsa Dippel; brothers-in-law Donald Dippel and Eugene Dippel, and sister-in-law, Alice Schaefer. Charlie cherished the time he served as custodian of St. Paul''s Christian Day School and the church, taking great pride in his work. He also served on the church council and usher teams. Serving as pallbearers are Gregg Dippel, Duane Dippel, David Dippel, Robert Winkelmann, Brett Kapner, and Troy Kapner. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Rodenbeck, Mike Brau, and Craig Borchardt. Memorials may be directed to St. Pauls T.V. Ministry, Hospice Brazos Valley, or to the Senior Center of Brenham. The family wishes to thank Brenham Nursing and Rehab Center for the loving and tender care given Charlie while he was a patient there, and the office staff for their guidance and loving understanding.
