Charlie Rudolph Sontag, 88, formerly of Burton, TX, died on July 22, 2020 in Navasota, TX.
Due to Covid 19, a private family graveside service will be held for the family only.
A visitation will be from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be encouraged and face masks will be required at the service.
Mr. Sontag was born on December 6, 1931 in Houston, TX to John and Lydia Ann Junek Sontag. He was baptized on December 11, 1932. He married his wife, Barbara Grubbs, on June 2, 1978.
Mr. Sontag attended Houston Public Schools. He joined the Houston Fire Department on August 21, 1950 and retired on September 5, 1976 at the rank of Senior Dispatcher. He was the second of three generations of Houston Fire Fighters. His father and his son were also Houston Fire Fighters. He had 400 hours of related fire training activities from the University of Houston. He drove Bus #3 for Burton ISD from 1983 to 1993.
Mr. Sontag is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charlie Rudolph Sontag Jr. and his wife Joyce of Montgomery, TX; daughter, Lynda Sontag of Plantersville, TX; step-grandson, William Holman; Niece, Janice Smith and her husband Curtis of Richmond, TX; nephew, John Frank Sontag Jr. and his wife Sonia of Del Rio, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lydia Sontag; wife, Barbara Sontag; stepson, Donald Ray Grubbs; brother, John Frank Sontag; and sister-in-law, Joyce Sontag.
Memorials may be directed to all Fire Departments, or your favorite pet rescue or shelter.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
