Charlie Tyson

April 9, 1933 — May 29, 2018

On May 29, 2018, Charlie Frank Tyson passed from this earthly life into the Heavenly realms to be with God his Creator, Jesus Christ his Savior, family and loved ones who preceded him. He passed away at home with his family and caregivers around him. Frank was born April 9, 1933 in Maysfield, Texas in Milam Co. to Isaac Murfee Tyson and Isabelle Simmons Tyson, the first of their three children. He was confirmed in the Maysfield Methodist Church when he was 12 years old. The family lived in Maysfield, Texas where his great-grandfather, John Ewing Tyson settled after moving from Clarksville, Tenn. in 1854. Frank graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1954 with a BA degree in History and Government and Math. In 1955, he married Jody Ketcham in the Lois Perkins Chapel at Southwestern. He taught Math, History and coached girls basketball and volleyball at Milano High School, Milano, Texas for two years. Jody taught at Rockdale Jr. High. Frank then enrolled at Texas A&I, Kingsville in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering degree program. He was awarded the Conoco Scholarship which resulted in his being hired by Conoco (now Conoco-Phillips) upon graduation. Frank worked for Conoco-Phillips for 31 years in the Natural Gas and Gas Products Division retiring in 1991. He loved his job and the company for which he worked.

No matter where the family was transferred by Conoco, Frank and his family became very involved in their church, some very large, some very small. He has held positions of leadership in each of these churches and has taught Sunday School in most of them.

Frank was a member of many organizations throughout his lifetime. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Methodist Men, Lions Club, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Cast Iron Seat Collectors, Numismatist Society, Houston Rose Society, Master Gardner, Brenham Forty-Two Club, Top Cat Dance Club.

Frank had many hobbies, each one of which required extensive knowledge and specific skills. Each hobby had an organization to work with and support those who enjoyed the same hobby. Usually Frank would find himself elected president of the organization. His hobby of raising show chickens led to his being asked to serve as a Committeeman at the Houston Livestock Show for a number of years. His last major hobby, restoring antique tractors, involved the most work and provided the most joy. He was president of the Sharecroppers Club for 4 years. In the process of pursuing his many hobbies, he made many close and wonderful friends and each one's friendship has meant so much to him.

Frank is survived by Jody, his wife of 63 years as of last Sunday, May 27. He is also survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Zoe and Terry Rascoe; Charlotte and Steve Goetz. Charlotte and Steve are the parents of Frank's three grandchildren Tyler, Ariana and Colton- whom he has loved and enjoyed so much. Frank is also survived by his sister, Mabel Dodd and husband Clarence, and brother, George Tyson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
