She is also survived by her sister Lynn Garris, brother Charles Lewis, Jr., stepmother Lillian May Lewis, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Cheri was a very beloved mother, sister, and aunt that devoted her life to those who knew her. Cheri was born and raised in Houston; she was on the drill team at Waltrip High School, and she attended night school at the University of Houston for Business Administration. Cheri has worked in various administrative and technical positions at Ultramar O&G, Anadarko Petroleum, Am-Tex Resources, Norcen Exploration, Canyon O&G, Talon Development Corp., Riviera Exploration, and Shell E&P. It was through mutual friends in the oil and gas industry that Cheri met Tony, her husband of 26 years. They have both worked in oil & gas since the 1980s, which has allowed them to enjoy living all over Texas, including Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and most recently Austin. Cheri made it a point to set a good example by being actively involved in her community. To name a few things, she led a Girl Scout troop and the Flour Bluff Cheerleading Booster Club, and was an active member of various O&G-related organizations, like the Desk & Derrick Club . Those closest to her always said that Cheri never met a stranger; she openly admitted that she could make friends with a wall! Cheri also had an adventurous side and she always encouraged her girls to try new things, from exotic foods to roller coasters. Never one to turn down a dare, she even made Tony pull over on a family roadtrip so she could go bungee jumping on the side of the road once! Cheri''s zest for life, rich laughter, contagious smile, and ever-loving spirit will live forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Cheri''s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 2pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel: 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833. Always known as the life of the party, Cheri has requested that nobody wear black, as this is a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, she has requested that donations be made on her behalf to either: 1 Hospice Austin – 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd. Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759, or 2 The Austin Zoo, a non-profit zoo that cares for rescued animals – http://austinzoo.org/make-a-donation/
