Christie Portis

Christie Portis, 51, of Brenham, passed away on June 7, 2023. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Monday, June 12 at Champion Fellowship, with Pastor Tim Webb officiating. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham. Honoring Christie’s wishes, family and friends are invited to return to Champion Fellowship after the burial to share food, fellowship, stories, and laughter.  

Christie was born in Brenham on February 23, 1972 to parents Billy Wayne Englemann and Darlene Kelly. She grew up in Brenham and graduated from Brenham High School. She attended Blinn College and went on to study social work and psychology at Texas A + M Prairie View.

In December of 1993, Christie was united in marriage to Edward Portis. They welcomed three children, Tyler, Braeden, and Karli. Christie was a loving and devoted mother and was very involved in her children’s lives. She never missed her kids’ ball games or events - she was always there to cheer them on and show her support.

Christie truly enjoyed her job as a case manager with the Texas Dept. of Aging and Disability (later renamed Texas Health and Human Services Commission). She served for over 25 years and loved being able to serve others through her work.

The light of Christie’s life was her family, especially her grandbabies Hadley and Boston, who called her Gigi. She was known as a sweet and generous person and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Christie is survived by: children Tyler Portis and partner Jenna Schroeder, Braeden Portis, Karli Portis; grandkids Hadley and Boston Portis; and her mother Darlene Kelly. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Elma Finke, and James and Sarah Englemann.

The family is deeply grateful to the medical staff who cared for Christie during her final days, and for all the friends and family who showed their care and support.

Pallbearers will be Coty Bohac, Darrell Storrs, Mark Finke, Tyler Pate, Jacore Parker, Anthony Moreno.
