Clarice Reecie Smith Pollard, 80, of Brenham won her battle with cancer on Jan. 18, 2015. She was born in El Paso to WG and Vera Mayfield Smith and grew up in Las Cruces, N.M. She attended New Mexico State University and then graduated from Baylor University. Clarice taught school in Houston and then in the Brenham ISD after moving to Brenham in 1964. She later worked for the Texas Employment Commission and the Brenham Industrial Foundation. The job she loved the most was helping MHMR with babies and children born with developmental disabilities. She was active in Al-Anon, helping families and young women cope with addiction. Her favorite hobby was cooking for family and friends. She is survived by her son, Mark Pollard of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Darlene Pollard of Burnet; son, Stuart Pollard of Austin; grandchildren, Christie, Jesse and Jacob; and sister, Joyce Jaynes of El Paso. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Pollard. A family celebration and potluck dinner will be held at St. Peter''s Episcopal Church on Feb. 7 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to Brazos Valley Hospice, Al-Anon or a charity of choice.
