Cynthia Marie Ramos

February 3, 1968 — October 8, 2024

Brenham

Cynthia Marie Ramos, 56, of Brenham, Texas passed away at home on October 8, 2024.

She was born in El Paso, Texas to Ima Gene Magedson and Dr. Oscar Ramos, and in her early years she was a quiet and introspective child, always observant. In junior high, Cynthia’s love for literature and poetry blossomed and she became a voracious reader and writer. She often wrote to publications to call attention to their grammatical errors. She attended St. Augustine High School in Laredo, TX where she was recognized for her academic achievement as a national merit scholar.

Cynthia graduated with honors from Creighton University and completed a bachelor’s degree in English literature. There, her musical talent grew with her involvement in musical theater. She earned a master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) from the University of Houston. Shortly after graduate school, she enjoyed performing in an urban tribal belly dance group called Urban Gypsy. Over the years she worked as a SLP at several nursing homes in east-central Texas and was recognized for her award-winning work with military veterans.

Listening to music, singing and watching musicals and episodes of The Kennedy Center Honors soothed Cynthia’s soul. She loved drawing, playing Yahtzee with her husband and taking their miniature schnauzer, Cooper, for walks around the neighborhood. One of Cynthia’s greatest gifts was her sense of humor. Her quick, witty comebacks were a clear example of her intelligence and sharp thinking.

Cynthia is survived by her parents, her husband, Francisco Cantu and their daughters Kristen, Katarina, and Kamela, sister Myriam Segovia (Luis), brother Charles Ramos, brother David Magedson (Abra), sister Sabina Magedson (Mauricio Oyarzo), several nieces, nephews and close family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception, 701 Church Street in Brenham, Texas. In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests donations be made to your preferred local charity.
