Dale Matthies

Dale "Pops" Everett Matthies, 56, of Burton, died February 11, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, with Pastor Mark Moore officiating. Burial will follow in La Bahia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 pm. Saturday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Dale Matthies was born January 17, 1960 in Brenham to Weldon Fred and Irene Clara Dallmeyer Matthies. He was baptized March 27, 1960, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 7, 1974.

Dale was salutatorian of the 1978 Burton High School graduating class. He was a member of the La Bahia Hall Association, and was also a member Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. Dale worked as a truck driver. He loved to go deer hunting, and enjoyed working with his cattle on his farm.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Katie Matthies; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Tim Cloud; grandchildren: Connor and Gavin Cloud; brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Kay Matthies; sister-in-law, Betsy Zeiss; aunt, Elvira Dallmeyer; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Irene Matthies, and a brother, David Matthies.

Serving as pallbearers are Tim Wiegelt, Kerry Lehmann, Nick Lehmann, Sergio Cerda, Craig Landry, and Ronnie Ladewig.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley.
