Daniel Wayne Goerlitz, 60, of Brenham, husband of Betty Franke Goerlitz, died January 28, 2010 in Brenham. Born August 21, 1949 in Giddings, Texas to Frank Christian and Olivia Freida Gregor Goerlitz, he was baptized on September 18, 1949 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings, and later confirmed there on April 7, 1963. Daniel was a 1967 graduate of Giddings High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. On June 14, 1969, he married Betty Joyce Franke in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church. Daniel worked as a delivery driver at Better Beverages for 22 ½ years, and was fondly known as Dr. Pepper Dan. He also worked as an ingredient processor at Blue Bell Creameries for 18 1/2 years. Fishing, barbecuing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends were favorite pastimes. Survivors include his wife, Betty Franke Goerlitz; son and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Shawna Goerlitz; daughters and sons-in-law Tammy and Kevin Burnett, and Olivia and Steve Borgstedte, all of Brenham; grandchildren Christina Burnett, Taylor Goerlitz, Carter Burnett, and Nicole Borgstedte; brothers and sister-in-law Ernie and Alice Goerlitz of Giddings and Eugene Goerlitz of Burton; sisters and brothers-in-law Elaine and Michael Kroll of Brenham, and Lisa and Jeffrey Fillmore of Bryan. Other surviving relatives include his mother-in-law, Selma Franke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Angelie Franke, sister-in-law, Ruth Maass, and special caregiver, Michelle Kent. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Olivia Goerlitz, father-in-law, Herman Franke, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Maass. Funeral services for Daniel Wayne Goerlitz will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church with Minister Kenneth Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Goerlitz, Charles Franke, Jr., James Zapalac, Jonathan Fillmore, Jeffrey Maass, Jason Maass, Darrell Rust, Donald Rust and Jeffrrey Fillmore II. Honorary pallbearers are Christina Burnett, Taylor Goerlitz, Carter Burnett, Nicole Borgstedte, as well as all employees in the Ingredient Processing Dept. at Blue Bell Creameries. Memorials may be directed to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Brenham, Hospice Brazos Valley, or to a favorite charity. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
