Darlene "Dottie" (Mertz) Herrmann was born on November 3, 1949 to Willie E. and Vernell (Schilling) Mertz. She was baptized on January 22, 1950 and confirmed in May of 1964, both at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. She attended Burton High School where she enjoyed playing basketball and graduated in 1968. She was married to R. Gene Herrmann on March 29, 1969 for 52 years. Together they raised their girls Cristi Lashelle and Ashlea Michelle in Brenham, TX. Dottie's greatest loves were those that call her Oma: Leah, Raney, Brooklyn, and baby Remi arriving in a few weeks.
Dottie found joy in so many wonderful things in her life. During their 10.5 years in the USAF, Dottie and Gene were stationed in Germany and traveled to Austria, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Switzerland, and England. State-side Dottie found joy in dancing, traveling, cross-stitching, crafting, and being with friends and family.
If you knew Dottie, you knew she stayed busy. She was employed by Brenham ISD for 36 years as a paraprofessional in special education. So many of her students held a special place in her heart. She also volunteered as an assistant leader for Cristi's Girl Scout Troop, in the Brenham 4-H club with Ashlea, and 17 years with the BHS Band Parents. More recently she was a strong supporter and attender of Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group, BARSP Retired Teachers, Wreaths Across America, and teaching in Vacation Bible School.
