Darrell D. “Dave” Porter III, of Brenham, passed away on January 18, 2022.
Dave was born on January 9, 1951 in Houston, TX to parents Darrell II and Maxine (Boedecker) Porter. He grew up in Houston and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1970.
After graduating from high school, Dave entered the Coast Guard. During his four years active duty, he was assigned to Haiti and Cuba. He was very proud to have served his country in the armed forces. He was honorably discharged in 1974.
After returning to civilian life, Dave began his 35 year employment with Liftmore Cranes in Houston. He started as a machinist but worked his way up to plant manager. Dave had an active role in building the company and assisting with expansion over the years. Dave had an integral role in developing the machinery and fabrication processes.
Dave’s start as a machinist taught him skills that always stuck with him; the importance of being detail oriented and thorough in your work. By the time he picked up woodworking as a hobby in his older years, he already knew the importance of “measure twice, cut once”. Dave built many treasured pieces for the family home and all of them displayed his love and care.
Dave loved his retirement home in Somerville TX in the Birch Creek Estates. He enjoyed making friends with his fellow HOA participants. Dave also loved his lab, Lucy. She followed him everywhere, whether he was running errands or working around the house. In his younger years, Dave and son Randy made many wonderful memories fishing in Galveston Bay. Dave loved his boat and enjoyed going out on the water.
Dave is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary (Martin) Porter; their son Randy and wife Myriam; beloved dog companion Lucy; and his many longtime friends from Liftmore Cranes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Porter, Randy Martin Sr., Richard Martin, and Randy Martin Jr.
