David Gurka

David Wayne Gurka, 45, of Chappell Hill, died September 14, 2013 at his residence. Visitation with the family will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill with Msgr. Benedict Zientek, celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Gurka was born October 23, 1967 in Brenham, TX, to Joe Edward and Bebe Moszkowicz Gurka. He was baptized October 29, 1967 and attended Brenham schools. He was employed as a ranch manager with Bryanloch Farms. On July 4, 1998, he married Drenda Dee Wellmann. David loved his woodworking and donated many pieces to local fundraisers. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was the type of guy that would help anyone in need. He also had a special love for his dogs and cats, considering them his babies. Survivors include his wife, Drenda Gurka of Chappell Hill; parents, Joe and Bebe Gurka of Chappell Hill; brother, Michael Gurka and wife Deanna of Greenwich, OH, brothers-in-law Dwayne Wellmann and wife Kim of Dallas, Dwight Wellmann and special friend Monica of Markey, and Dennis Wellmann and wife Tanisha of Tomball; niece and nephews, Angie and Brandon Risner of Greenwich, OH, Michael Gurka of N. Fairfield, OH, Matthew Gurka of Washington, D.C. and Kenny Gurka of Greenwich, OH; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Delvin and Diana Wellmann. Mr. Gurka was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Annie Gurka and Joe Sr. and Zofie Moszkowicz. Pallbearers will be David Adler, Tim Murski, John Columbus DaBera, Chip Kwiatkowski, Joseph Farwell and Ricky Adler. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Gurka.
