David Flinnoye Hopkins, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday November 26th, 2023 at the age of 83. A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX on Tuesday December 12th with the family present from 5 – 7 pm.
David was born on April 15th, 1940 in Houston, TX to his beloved mother Elizabeth Stockton Deavers and father David Flinnoye Hopkins, Sr. His childhood was spent around the country before most of his formative years in Galveston, TX. He graduated from Ball High School in 1958 and held many fond memories there centered around the beach and singing in various school and church choirs. He got to Texas A&M as fast as he could upon graduating and was a proud member of the Core of Cadets and Class of 1962 with a degree in Accounting. He continued to follow Aggie Football & the Aggie Band and was involved as a member of the Association of Former Students his entire life. Many of his family members followed in his footsteps and have called Aggieland home because of his decision to be an Aggie!
His time at Texas A&M further inspired a love of his country and he joined the Army, serving admirably from December 1961 through his Honorable Discharge in November 1967. At that time, he continued to serve his country on the civilian side in the Aerospace and Defense Industry through his employment with General Dynamics as a Technical Systems Specialist within their Corporate Office and later with the FMC Corporation as a Manager of Systems Assurance in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
David moved to Brenham, TX in 2011 to care for his ailing mother and be near his extended family, learning to love his new home and neighbors in Kruse Village. He looked forward to the special luncheons and gatherings amongst the neighborhood and neighbors remember him fondly with his wit and knowledge of electronics!
David is survived by his niece, Holly Hopkins Richardson and her son Blake (5) and his nephew Mike Hopkins, Jr. (class of 2004) and his wife Liz Hopkins (class of 2005) and their two children Tyler (10) and Travis (8). He is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Stockton Deavers and his brother, Mike Hopkins (class of 1967) and his wife Nina Hopkins.
Memorials can be made to the donor’s favorite charity, particularly those that care for our nation’s wounded veterans and their extended family members.
