David Mertz

David Lee Mertz, 50, of Bryan, passed away September 23, 2011. David was born November 12, 1960 in Bryan to Elo Louis and Vernell Lena Noak Mertz. Baptized March 5, 1961 in St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of La Grange, he was confirmed May 4, 1975 in Our Savior''s Lutheran Church in College station. He attended Bryan public schools. David was a gifted leather craftsman for Courts Saddlery Co. of Bryan. A member of the Sons of Hermann, and David enjoyed spending time outdoors. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Rev. Kevin Boaz of Kurten, Tx. officiating. Burial will follow in the Shelby Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Survivors include his parents, Elo and Vernell Mertz of Brenham; brothers Welton Mertz, Glenn Mertz, Darrell Mertz, Mark Mertz and wife Cindy all of Brenham; Jimmie Mertz and wife Sue of League City; sisters Karen Dittfurth and husband Steven of Bryan, Lorette Mertz of Brenham, and Melissa Baginski and husband Mike of San Marco. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Edna Mertz, and Waldemar and Etta Noak. Funeral arrangements for David Lee Mertz are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
