David Raymond

February 23, 1966 — July 5, 2017

David Bruce Raymond, age 51, beloved son, brother and special servant of God, passed away peacefully July 5, 2017 at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, surrounded by his devoted family.

David was born in Miami, Florida February 23, 1966 to Kenneth Wesley Raymond and Gwendolyn Gambier Raymond. The youngest of six children, David grew up much loved and doted upon by his older brother and four sisters. David attended Special Education schooling from the age of 4 years through age 21 in Florida, before moving to Houston TX area in 1990. David spent ten years in a residential group home in Houston. In 2001, David came to reside at the Brenham State Supported Living Center in Brenham, where he called Cottage B his home until his passing. David also attended a workshop Monday-Friday.

David was happy, brave, and strong of spirit and soul. He woke with a smile, joy in his beautiful heart, determined to make the best of each day. His infectious personality was undeniable, and he touched so many during his life. He was kind, compassionate, and a very loving individual. David was, and his memory is, much cherished by his family. He will be profoundly missed by all.

David is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W. Raymond. He is survived by his loving and devoted mom, Gwen Raymond of Brenham TX, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Barry Habermann of Cañon City CO, brother Kenneth J. Raymond of Rockport TX, sister/guardian and brother-in-law Theresa and Daniel Gellerman of Hockley TX, sister Christina Raymond of Quincy FL, and sister and brother-in-law Alice and Gary Young of Knoxville TN. He is also survived by an aunt, Cecelia Brooks, and cousin Jennifer Alley of Richmond VA, and by niece Lily Wan of New York City, and nephew Kevin Wan of Maryland.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to, and gratefully acknowledges David’s second family ~ each of the staff and caretakers at the Brenham State Supported Living Center who treated David with love, respect and compassion.

Family, friends, and holidays were David’s delight. David had a knack for developing a special and unique relationship with all ~ his mom, each of his five siblings, and all whom he came to know through his years at BSSLC. David loved music, animals, dancing, flirting, writing and drawing. He took great pride in his appearance each day, carefully selecting his clothing so everything coordinated, down to his baseball caps, sneakers and sunglasses. In his younger days David excelled at Gymnastics through the Special Olympics in Florida and took Second Place in the State one year.
