Delbert Herman Big D Gaskamp, 72, of Burton, a husband, father, Paw Paw and son, went to eternal peace on August 10, 2005, at his residence. Delbert was born to Louis and Melinda Reimer Gaskamp on August 2, 1933. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. Delbert attended Hoddeville and Gay Hill schools and served in the Texas National Guard for nine years. On Aug. 2, 1953, he was married to his sweetheart, LeVerna Seilheimer, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Rev. Paul Fischer. Delbert retired from Brenham Wholesale Grocery after 30 years of service and worked part time at Hughes Electric. Delbert never met a stranger and was like by all who met him. He was a former member of Gay Hill-Mound Hill-Cedar Hill Fire Department and Gay Hill Shooting Club. Delbert is survived by his wife of 52 years, LeVerna Gaskamp of Burton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Julie Gaskamp, Jeffrey Pete Gaskamp and Craig and Ann Gaskamp, all of Brenham. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Ann Gaskamp and Harry and Patty Gaskamp, all of Brenham; and one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Clifton of Crowell. Delbert, known as Paw Paw to his six grandchildren, Wayne, Amie, Emilie, Jon, Jonathan and Melissa, will be thought of often. Also, numerous nieces and nephews will miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. and continuing after the memorial service. Pastor Virgil Pecht will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. Hospice and Pastor Pecht were a great comfort to Delbert and his family. Service arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
