Dennie Wayne Marek, 74, of Industry, died January 15, 2020, at his residence.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. Burial will be in Latium Cemetery.
Mr. Marek was born in Killeen, TX on June 21, 1945 to Henry Willie and Annastina (Aschenbeck) Marek.
On Feb. 20, 1965, he was married to Janell “Tiny” Meyer. He was co-owner of Grimm’s Radiator.
A talented musician and singer, Mr. Marek made music all his life, ending his career in 2016 with the Central Texas Sounds. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and his yearly hunting trips to Colorado. He loved animals, often bringing orphaned animals home to his wife. In traveling, he would always take the scenic route. He was an adventurer who would try anything once. He also participated in baseball, bowling, shooting and friendly wrestling competitions.
A loving husband, father and grandpa, he was patient in teaching his kids and grandkids. His greatest pride was his grandkids, to whom he passed on many of his great traits.
Survivors include his special friend, Barbara Kalkhake; daughters, Cindy Kissel, Kimberly Pieper and Denise Plumb and husband Stephen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell and Jane Marek and Barnell and Susie Marek; sister-in-law, Ora Dean Duesterhoft; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ben J. and Delores Meyer; grandchildren, Ava Plumb, Andie Plumb, Hunter Pieper, Hayden Pieper and Holden White; aunt, Alma Aschenbeck Schmidt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janell “Tiny” Marek; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben F. and Elsie Meyer; brother-in-law, Otto Duesterhoft II; Cindy Kissel’s significant other, Jimmy Seibert; numerous aunts and uncles; and his fur baby Lacy.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Pieper, Hayden Pieper, Holden White, Christopher Marek, Alen Duesterhoft, Otto Duesterhoft and Stephen Plumb. Honorary pallbearers are Ava Plumb, Andie Plumb, all his nieces and nephews, members of the Central Texas Sounds Band and special care attendants Becky Barnett and Jordan Barnett.
Memorials may be directed to Encompass Health Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby or Industry Fire Department First Responders.
