Dennis Henry Luetge, 89, of Brenham, died April 16, 2003, in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Mr. Luetge was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Industry, TX, to Henry and Mary Kruse Luetge. He attended Schoenau Public School in Austin County. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville on April 6, 1952. On Jan. 30, 1936, he married Lula Meyer in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Mrs. Luetge died Nov. 22, 1997. On Feb. 14, 2000, Mr. Luetge married Erma Green Prigge in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville. Mr. Luetge was the foreman of the Doe Run Ranch for 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville, where he served on the council and ushering committee. For many years he served as president of the Washington County Roping Club. He also served on the Rodeo Committee of the Washington County Fair Association and served on the board of the Old Washington School District. Mr. Luetge was a member of the Cutting Horse Association and the Sons of Hermann. He received the Ranch Manager of the Year award from the Washington County Soil Conservation. Mr. Luetge loved his family, enjoyed working with horses, loved being with his friends and playing cards. Survivors include his wife, Erma Luetge of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Glynne Nell Luetge of Hempstead; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Elroy Wellmann of Brenham, Dolly and Gerald Krause of Brenham and Karen and Mack Machacek of Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mamie and Jimmy Swonke of Cat Spring and Mercedes and Leon Vierus of Brenham; 12 grandchildren, Troy Wellmann, Dean Luetge, Scott Luetge, Kyle Krause, Kris Krause, Koy Krause, Dennis Luetge, Vickie Nelson, Tammy Hill, Kelly Kwiatkowski, Sheryl Townsend and Donna Land; and 21 great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife of 63 years Lula Luetge, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Luetge, on Feb. 17, 1990; his parents; and a brother and sister, who died in infancy. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 18 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Troy Wellmann, Dean Luetge, Scott Luetge, Kyle Krause, Kris Krause, Koy Krause and Dennis Luetge. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Don Winkelmann, Elwood Kelm, Leeroy Kramer, Jerry Kieke and Larry Kieke. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham. The website is memorialoakschapel.com.
