Derwood Harrison, Jr.

Derwood Lester Harrison, Jr. 62, died January 10, 2017 in College Station after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Derwood Harrison was born February 11, 1954 in Abilene to Durwood Lester and Sarah Elizabeth Culbreath Harrison. He graduated from Hardin Jefferson High School. On August 31, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Ramona Jean Stinnett in Beaumont. He was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham. Mr. Harrison was employed by Blue Bell Creameries in the maintenance department. Prior to Blue Bell, he worked many years at Mt. Vernon Mills in maintenance.

A dedicated family man, Derwood treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing practical jokes.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Harrison; sons and daughters-in-law Garrett and Jennifer Harrison of Columbus, and Ricky Harrison and Hali McCurry of Lake Jackson; grandchildren: Brett Harrison and Alaina Harrison; brother and sister-in-law, Clark and Carol Harrison. Other relatives surviving are Beverly Harrison, Angela Harrison Ford, and Haley Harrison Cassidy.

Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Harrison, his father, Durwood Harrison, and mother, Sarah Harrison.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Vineyard Church in Brenham, with Villard Hunter officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
