Don Stephen Franklin, 87, of Hempstead, passed away January 5, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hempstead, with Pastor Lee Hartman officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hempstead from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Don Franklin was born July 26, 1927 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Joe Nettles and Tina Turner Franklin. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. On March 9, 1957, he was married to Mildred Ahrens. Mr. Franklin was employed by Texas Dept. of Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Franklin of Hempstead; son and daughter-in-law Thomas Alan and Cindy Franklin of Houston; daughter Ann Marie Franklin of Houston; grandchildren: Reese Alan Franklin and wife Melany, Matthew Seth Franklin and Christopher Brooks Franklin, and great-grandson Conor Knox Franklin. Other surviving relatives are nieces Kaye Griswold, Judy Justus and husband David, as well as a great-nephew, Chad Justus. He was preceded in death by sisters Tina Griswold and Francis Cross. Serving as pallbearers are Reese Franklin, Seth Franklin, Brooks Franklin, David Justus, David Spreen, and Chuck Peterson.
