Donald Jaster

Donald Lee Jaster, 70, of Brenham, husband of Beverly Saeger Jaster, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Christus Dubuis Hospital of Bryan.

Donald was born October 19, 1941 in Brenham to Otto and Elma Jahnke Jaster. He was baptized December 5, 1941 and confirmed March 29, 1956 at Salem Lutheran Church in Salem. On October 23, 1960, Donald was married to Beverly Saeger at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham by Pastor Arnold G. Mueller.

Donald proudly served his country for more than 35 years in the United States Army and Texas Army National Guard. For the majority of his career he was the full time Administrative Supply Technician and Unit Administrator for the Texas Army National Guard Unit based in Brenham. During his time with the 2nd Battalion 36th Airborne Brigade, he proudly served as a Jump School Instructor Black Hat. Donald was also the Unit 1st Sergeant for Company B 386th Engineer Battalion and retired in 1997 from the HHC 176th Engineer Battalion.

Donald enjoyed spending time with his family. He served as a Cub Scout Leader and was very active in the Washington County Little League. He enjoyed all youth athletic events such as Cub football and baseball. Donald also enjoyed fishing, working on small engines, and loved firing and working on all types of guns.

Donald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly Saeger Jaster of Brenham, sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Tamara Jaster of Brenham, Michael Jaster of Seabrook, and Jason and Heidi Jaster of Burton; grandson, Saeger Jaster of Burton; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Vinnie Jaster of Independence; brother-in-law, Raymond Deutrich of Brenham; a nephew, Ross Jaster of Iola; a niece, Sandra Parker of Brenham and numerous cousins and other relatives. He is also survived by his beloved dog Lacy.

His parents preceded him in death, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles L. and Edna Rosenbaum Saeger.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening, February 8, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Matthew Jacobs and Pastor William H. Holzer officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Serving as pallbearers are Calvin Coufal, John Santos, Donald Nicholas, Darrell Kruger, Jimmie Maurer, Edward Schulte and Carlos Vargas. Honorary pallbearers include General Raymond Peters, Michael Peters, Raymond Deutrich and all past and present members of the Texas Army National Guard with whom Donald served.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church and School and/or a charity of your choice. Funeral services have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main. Street, Brenham, TX.
