Dora Tappe Kieke, 87, passed away October 18, 2017 in Brenham.
Mrs. Kieke was born Sept. 5, 1930 in the William Penn community of Washington Co. to John and Sarah Wieghat Tappe. She was baptized after birth, and confirmed March 25, 1945 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Pastor Appel. After attending area schools, she graduated from Brenham High School. On Nov. 16, 1958, she married M.C. Kieke at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn.
Dora began her floral career with Weghorst Floral Co. in Brenham, and was later employed by Kuhn Flower Shop in Carmine. She retired from the Green Cottage Florist in Carmine.
Playing pitch, bingo, and watching Wheel of Fortune were favorite pastimes. She was an avid Astros fan, and never missed her grandchildren’s ballgames. A people person, she never met a stranger, and was always ready to go if something was going on. Easy going, never complaining, and slow to anger, her outlook on life was always positive, even until the last days of her life.
A devout Christian, Dora’s faith in God was very strong. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and served as the church secretary for a number of years. Dora also served on the Church Council and various committees as St. John’s United Church of Christ, where she was a member of Circle I, and was always ready to lend a hand with fundraisers and other church activities. Other memberships included the Burton VFD Ladies Auxiliary and the La Bahia Cemetery Association. She also volunteered for the Fishes and Loaves organization.
Family was very important to her, and she enjoyed getting together on holidays. She was very proud of her grandchildren, and supported all their activities. She was present at their sports activities and Livestock Shows, where they exhibited their swine projects. Dora was proud to see them receive awards and honors at school award banquets. A proud Aggie granny, she was fortunate to attend each of their graduations from Texas A&M University. She fought the good fight, and is now at peace in a much better place.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Judy and Jerry Krebs of Willow Springs; son, Darrell Kieke of Burton; grandchildren: Jared Krebs and wife Hannah, Jenna Krebs and special friend Bradley Folsom, and Katelyn Kieke. She is also survived by numerous cousins and other relatives.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, M. C. Kieke, her parents, and brother, William Tappe.
