Doretta Ann Dever Holloway, 75, passed away June 1, 2013 in College Station Medical Center in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at St. John''s United Church of Christ, with Pastor Greg Felder officiating, along with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Holloway will lie in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham until noon Tuesday, and at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton thereafter, with visitation scheduled Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Foehner Funeral Home. Doretta Holloway was born August 30, 1937 to Elmer Ward and Gladys Gates Dever in Galveston, where she was baptized on October 3, 1937. She was a graduate of La Marque High School, and Sam Houston State Teachers College. On December 26, 1961, she married Alfred Charles Holloway. A retired educator, she taught many years in the Burton I.S.D. Memberships included the Future Homemakers of America, Delta Sigma Theta, Home Demonstration Club, Burton Booster Club, the Washington Co. Fair Assoc., American Legion Post 242, Burton VFD Ladies Auxiliary, Circle I of St. John''s UCC, and the Bodacious Burton Babes Red Hat Society, where she was honored as Queen Mother of 2013. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Wesley and Vickie Holloway of Spring, and David and Debra Holloway of Charlotte, TX; daughter and son-in-law Sallie and Charles Bennett of Navasota; grandchildren Matthew and Erin Hubert, and Malissa Hubert; great-grandchildren: Jay Lewis, and Laney Hubert. Other surviving relatives include a sister, Sue Engstrom, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Charles Holloway in 2001, and her parents, Elmer and Gladys Dever. Serving as pallbearers are all former area state officers of the FHA. Honorary pallbearers are friends from Hair Depot, Cactus Restaurant, Circle I, and the Bodacious Burton Babes.
