Doris Louise Eckert, 80, widow of Richard Henry Eckert, died Sept. 26, 2012 at College Station Medical Center in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, with Pastor Rich Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Doris was born Nov. 10, 1931 to William and Olivia Rost Wickel in Greenvine. She was baptized and later confirmed in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. It was here that she was married to Richard Eckert in March of 1952. She remained an active member in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, as well as the church choir, WELCA circle, and Memorial Committee. Doris loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was the greatest mother, a doting, loving and spoiling grandmother, and friend to all she met. She mothered all who came through her door. Her grandchildren numbered both her own and also all their friends. Known for her friendliness and humor, she had many dear friends who valued her friendship. Doris was always found in the middle of community activities, be it school or other organizations, especially her church. She was known widely and stated many times that she was the mayor of Greenvine and an unofficial agent of the FBI. Many described her as a "live wire." Her legacy is one of many cherished memories. Her grandchildren can tell of her many exploits, midnight shopping trips to town for food, driving lessons, the great four day ice-in, and many, many more. Doris enjoyed music. She would entertain the kids and grandkids playing on her accordion and harmonica for hours. Doris was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior. The greatest family tradition was Granny''s famous Thanksgiving prayer. This was her yearly opportunity to address family "business" with the Lord. She''d even pray for the football games each Thanksgiving. The joke was that she would pray so long that the food would get cold. She will be missed by many, but remembered by all. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Richard Rick W. and Debra Eckert of Greenvine, Ronnie C. and Debbie Eckert of Carmine, and daughter and son-in-law Judy L. and Dr. Kenneth Landgraf of Brenham; grandchildren Charlie Kriegel, Kelly and John Wall, Ben and Margaret Landgraf, Andrew and Stacy Eckert, Josh Eckert, Brooke Eckert, Lacy Eckert, and Luke Eckert; great-grandchildren: Christina Kriegel, and Cale and Reagan Wall; brother-in-law Raymond Kieke, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eckert, her parents, sister best friend and brother-in-law Ruby and Harold Eckert, and brother Kirby and wife, Ellis Wickel, and in-laws Nellie and Ben Wofford, Ethel Kieke, and John and Lillie Eckert. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons: Charlie Kriegel, Ben Landgraf, Andrew Eckert, Josh Eckert, Luke Eckert, and John Wall. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine or to any favorite charity. Funeral arrangements for Doris Eckert are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
