Doris Klingsporn

April 5, 1939 — April 4, 2019

Doris Janet Kelm Klingsporn passed away from this life, surrounded by family, only a few hours shy of her 80th birthday.

Doris was born April 5, 1939, in Burton, Texas, the daughter of Ben and Erna Kelm. She was baptized on May 14,1939 and confirmed on April 6, 1952, both at St John’s UCC in Burton, Texas.

Life on the farm was filled with chores but lots of joy for a family with four kids. This hard work gave birth to her strong work ethic and the importance of family.

She attended Burton schools and was very active in high school playing numerous sports, involved in various clubs and graduated as valedictorian in 1957. This is where her love for reading began.

She met the love of her life, Robert, on a blind date and they were married October 9, 1958 at St John’s UCC Church in Burton, Texas. After marriage she continued her education at Massey Business School in Houston.

They settled in Angleton, Texas where they raised three children. As a stay-at-home mom she attended many PTA meetings. She never missed a football game to watch her son, Dale, play football or watch Keith and Kim march with the band. She was a talented seamstress and spend many hours behind her sewing machine or with a crochet or quilting needle in her hand. She later worked at the Brazoria County Clerk’s office in the deeds and records department and later was a voter tabulation clerk. After 20 plus years, Doris retired from Brazoria County and they moved to Shelby, Texas to be closer to family. They loved Shelby and made many good friends

She was an active member of both St. John’s Lutheran in Angleton, and St Paul’s Lutheran in Shelby where she was very involved, including Alter Guild, being a communion assistant and a member of several woman’s groups.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Erna Kelm, sister Nancy Butler and grandson Timothy Klingsporn. She is survived by her husband, Robert, brothers Harold and Floyd Kelm. Her children and spouses, Dale and Garnette Klingsporn, Keith and Melanie Klingsporn and Kim and Tony Lee. Her beloved grandchildren, Walker Klingsporn and fiancé, Carrie Stence, Courtney Lee, Emily Klingsporn, Cameron Lee, Olivia Klingsporn and Benjamin Klingsporn, of whom she was very proud. She was especially proud of the Aggie Rings that she helped inspire.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 5:30-7:30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, Texas. A memorial service will be April 14, at 2:30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran, Shelby. Pastor Nedbalek will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6814 Skull Creek Rd, Fayetteville, TX 78940.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Seton Medical Center Hays, Kyle, Texas and Hospice Austin for their compassion and support as our time with her came to a close.
