Doris Koehne

Doris Tegeler Koehne passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, faith, and family. She touched the lives of all who knew her.

Doris Georgina Tegeler was born on July 5, 1940, to Elsie Loesch and Raymond Tegeler in Kenney, Texas, She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on September 29, 1940. Born of German descent, she inherited strong character traits that defined her throughout her life.

A proud 1958 graduate of Brenham High School, Doris earned a degree from Massey Business College in Houston. She met her future husband, Richard "Dickey" Stickley, in high school, and they married on November 1, 1959, sharing a lifetime of memories, including their love for square dancing. In 1977, Doris faced the loss of Dickey when their daughter, Leslie, was 12 and their son, Craig, just 8. Despite raising two young children alone, Doris did so with remarkable strength, grace, and love.

In 1994, Doris found her dancing partner in Fred Koehne, and they married. Together, they purchased their forever home on the family farm, planning to grow old together. Though Fred passed away in 2000, Doris cherished their years together.

Age never defined Doris, who remained active and vibrant in her community until her passing. She served as bookkeeper at Christ Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Day School, taught Sunday School, and was involved in the Altar Guild, Women's Organization, and Church Council. Doris was also dedicated to several civic organizations, including the Washington County CattleWomen, Texas CattleWomen, American National CattleWomen, and the Brenham Pilot Club. She served as a past board member of Brenham Mission Society.

Throughout her life, Doris worked for numerous businesses, including Gulf Oil in Houston, the Brenham Livestock Auction, Four G Ranch in Hempstead, Waller Implement, Brazos Country Travel, M&C Equipment, and, of course, Christ Lutheran Church and Day School.

Doris was a talented and creative spirit, finding joy in quilting, sewing, gardening, baking cakes, and traveling by land, air, or sea. At the age of 36, she embraced the adventure of learning to ski in Switzerland, and whether abroad or closer to home, she was always eager to explore new places. She cherished time with her family, and loved participating in chuckwagon cooking competitions with her brother, Lonnie, and their family heirloom chuckwagon. Her Southern Living Christmas cakes were a treat at the Loesch Family Christmas, fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to taste them. Above all, Doris treasured the time spent with her family, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Raymond Tegeler, as well as her grandparents, Meta and Otto Loesch, and Dora and Herrmann Tegeler. She was also preceded by her husbands, Richard Stickley and Fred Koehne; along with her in-laws, Willis Stickley Sr. and Gladys Stickley and Fritz and Clara Koehne. Doris was also preceded by her brothers-in-law, Willis Stickley Jr., Don Hewitt, Joel Murray, Travis Rosenbaum; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Florence and Barry Blum; and her dear friend, Calvin Braun.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Mount and husband Scott Mount; her son, Craig Stickley and wife Angie Stickley; and her beloved grandchildren: Skylar Mohr and husband Marshall Mohr; Morgan Kubera and husband Trevor Kubera; Robert Mount and wife Emily Mount; and Michael Mount and girlfriend Zoe Fletcher. Doris was also blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren: Piper Mohr, Willow Mohr, Sterling Mohr, and Julietta Kubera. She treasured her stepdaughters, Leah Calder and Leslie Kurtz.

In addition, Doris is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Barbara Tegeler; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Laverne Stickley; her sisters-in-law, Carmen Stickley and Judy Cowan, Loyce Murray, and Margie Rosenbaum; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Carol Koehne. She is also loved by her aunts, Ella Flynt and Edna Schroeder, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doris Koehne will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her deep faith,and her kind and caring spirit. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Memorial Oaks from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
