Doris Miller

Doris Louise Cooley Miller passed away May 22, 2012 at the age of 92. She was born in Choctaw Oklahoma on November 10, 1919 to Mildred and Tenal Cooley. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Minta Marcia Miller, her brother Tenal Cooley, and her husband Eugene L Miller. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School and graduated from Oklahoma A&M, now known as Oklahoma State University in Stillwater Oklahoma where she met Gene. They were married in 1942, shortly before he was deployed to England where he was stationed for the duration of the war. After the war they settled in Mount Vernon, Ohio and Gene started his career with Cooper Bessemer. Doris set out to raise their family and pursue her many passions, not the least of which included her great love of bird watching. Throughout her life she and Gene traveled the world in pursuit of new birds to add to her list and document in her books. The family moved to Houston in 1967 with Cooper Industries, and lived there until retirement. They then moved to their farm in Brenham where they enjoyed the country life and their many friends. Doris is survived by her daughter, Melinda Powell and husband William, her son Matthew Miller and wife Dodie, and her daughter Melissa Rush and husband Carl. She leaves 7 grandchildren, Madison Powell, Lindsay Powell Ford, Hillary Powell Fowler, Jonathan Miller, Minta Miller, Christopher Rush, and Erin Rush. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren, Sara Powell, Avery Powell, Miles Ford, Cooper Ford, George Fowler, and Harlan Fowler. She will be greatly missed by her family for her unwavering support and zest for life. Funeral services will be held at the Brenham Presbyterian Church at 10:30 am, Saturday May 26, 2012 and a private interment will follow at Oak Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity or organization of your choice. Funeral services for Doris Cooley Miller are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
