Doris Maxine Rodgers left this earth during the early morning hours of April 1, 2004. She was born October 20, 1926, in Koenton, Alabama, to Henry Conner and Addie Bell Wright Wilkins. She grew up in Bastrop, TX. She attended Bastrop schools where she met her future husband. She also attended Weatherford Junior College. She remained married to Floyd Cy Rodgers for 53 years. She raised two stepsons, Patrick and Michael Rodgers, and later she and Cy had two children, Kathleen and Jim Rodgers. She worked at the Brenham State School and previously the Selective Service System and First Baptist Church of Brenham. She also worked at the Corps of Engineers during the development of Lake Somerville. She was an avid bridge player and was active in several community bridge clubs. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, F.D. Cy Rodgers; a stepson, Michael B. Rodgers of Houston; sister-in-law, Eva Lou Wilkins; and a brother, James Rudolf Rudy Wilkins of Brenham, formerly of Bastrop. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Thelen of Austin and her children Sean and Erin Thelen; her son, Jim Rodgers of Tomball, his wife Terri and their son Cullen. She leaves behind many relatives and friends who will greatly miss her. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 4 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 5 in First Baptist Church in Brenham with Rev. Steve Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Sean F. Thelen, Jim Rodgers, Randy Wilkins, Cliff Wilkins, Doug Wilkins and Jim Wilkins. Memorials may be given to Brenham High School Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
