Dorothy Ann Lueck Hohlt, affectionately known as "Meme," entered eternal rest on December 17, 2024. Born at home on the family farm on November 26, 1937, Dorothy's life began on land cherished by her family since 1893. She grew up surrounded by love, raised with her parents, paternal grandparents, and great-grandfather. She often spoke of her great childhood, filled with warmth and cherished memories.
Dorothy was baptized on February 27, 1938, by Rev. A.J. Mohr, and she confirmed her faith on April 13, 1952, under the guidance of Rev. Raymond W. Wolf, holding tightly to her confirmation verse, Revelations 3:20: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock..." Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life.
On June 28, 1958, Dorothy married the love of her life, Harold Hohlt. Together, they built a beautiful family until Harold's passing on October 12, 1990. Their reunion in heaven after over 30 years apart surely filled both of their hearts with joy.
Dorothy led a life of selfless service and love. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, worked for the State of Texas for nearly 30 years as a secretary and later as a caseworker, and retired in June 1996. Her service didn't stop there; she volunteered for programs such as "Kool After School," JAM (Jesus And Me), and HOSA (Helped One Student To Succeed). She also worked part-time as a volunteer secretary at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church for 19 years and served as an election clerk and judge. Dorothy was a constant source of support, wisdom, and kindness to her community.
Dorothy had a unique charm and was known for her playful vocabulary, with words like "putchin" and "vokaly" becoming family staples. She constantly reminded everyone, "We are so blessed" and "We have so much to be thankful for." Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds, and they knew she would do anything for them. Christmas was made memorable by her famous homemade eggnog. The holidays will never be the same without her.
As we celebrate Dorothy's remarkable life, we are comforted knowing she is reunited with Harold, embraced in his arms after decades apart. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rest in peace, MeMe. You were truly a blessing, and we have so much to be thankful for because of you.
She is survived by her loving sons and their wives: Michael Ray and Trissie (Fuller) Hohlt, Bruce David and Joyce (Wensel) Hohlt, and Harold William "Bill" and Christi (Luhn) Hohlt.
