Dorothy Lamberth Gates, 90 years, died January 16, 2007. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband of 70 years, James Edgar Gates who died August 21, 2004. Dorothy Gates was born, July 16, 1916 to Douglas D. and Rose Lamberth in Houston, TX. She attended Houston Public Schools, graduating from Jeff Davis HS in 1934. In the mid-1050 s, she began a life-long career working in public education including almost 20 years as a book-keeper for Houston Independent School District and 7 years as Bursar for Blinn Junior College. Dorothy and Edgar enjoyed 30 plus years living on their farm in Austin County off FM 389 @ Washington County line. Dorothy and Edgar Gates were the proud parents of three daughters: Nancy Sue Belcher, Spring TX; Shirley Gates Varner, Georgetown TX; and Cecil Ann Otto, Brenham TX. Each of their beloved spouses: Ray Belcher, James K. Varner and Charles Otto shared their daughters love for Dorothy and Edgar and will lead the memorial service. Dorothy Gates is also survived by a beloved sister Mary Frances Inez Ingram and niece Barbara Jean Hill and family; grandchildren Gerald Buddy Edge & spouse Karen; Michael Tony Duren & spouse Kathy; Noelle Varner Malcom & spouse Bill; James Aaron Otto & spouse Jenna; Matthew Otto; Whitney Otto. She had 6 great-children; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; extended family in Alabama through marriage to Edgar. Many wonderful friends enriched her life as she did theirs. Dorothy Gates was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Brenham, TX. Earlier she and Edgar s faithful service to Christ touched the lives and faith of many youth and adults at Park Temple BC, Houston. She was a Past Worthy Matron member of Brenham Chapter of the Eastern Star. Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 19, 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20 at First Baptist Church sanctuary, Brenham TX. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Library First Baptist Church, Brenham, the Gideon s, or memorial gift of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
