Dorothy Lesser

December 4, 1925 — April 7, 2025

On Monday evening, April 7, 2025, Dorothy Jean Lesser left a long happy life on this earth to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dorothy was born on December 4, 1925 to Hugh and Lillian Crawford. Born and raised in Bellville, she enjoyed a happy childhood and graduated from Bellville High school and then Blinn College where she met the love of her life, Abie Lesser, Jr..

They were married on June 11, 1944. To this union was born their daughter, Patsy Jean Hermann. Dorothy was always involved in and supportive of everything her daughter was involved in. She was always a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Dorothy was a member of Brenham's First Baptist Church where she directed the Junior Choir for many years. She was a Girls Auxiliary leader and a Girl Scout Leader as well as having served on various committees in the church over the years. At the time of her passing she was the longest member of First Baptist Church.

Dorothy was especially proud of singing in the choir Christmas musical when she was in her late 80's and early 90's. She loved the church choir and always made sure that she attended the Christmas performances each night.

Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star having served as worthy Matron and was Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls.

One of the things she enjoyed for many years was bowling on the Wednesday Morning Ladies League with friends and teammates, Virginia Rothermel, Evelyn Thielemann and Laverne Lehrmann.

Some of the fondest memories were the many trips that she and Abie took to Europe and in the States. She truly enjoyed the trips to New York with daughter Patsy and a very special December trip to New York when her granddaughter Jennifer arrived on her birthday she said she was never so surprised!

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Abie Lesser, Jr. in 2003 and son-in-law John Hermann in 2021. Her parents Hugh and Lillian Crawford, sisters Nell Blanchard and husband Vance, Mildred Plentl and husband Lester, brother Marsene Crawford and wife Lena and brother Bobby Crawford. Many loving friends also precede her. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Jean Hermann and granddaughter Jennifer Jean Hermann Vasquez and her husband David Vasquez. Special cousins Bonnie Hood, Kent Smith and wife B.J. and Gordon Smith. Dorothy is also survived by her special grand-dog, Zoe Hermann.

Though she will be greatly missed, her family is comforted knowing she is in the arms of her Lord.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Haven Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and care.
