She also leaves her very special companion for the past seven years, her beloved dog Bubba, who brought her great comfort and joy. Bernadine or Mimi , as she was affectionately called by many, was independent, strong-willed and loving. She worked for many years in Hearne for Jake Abrams Dry Goods, C.D. s Dress Shop and as manager of Lou s Fashions from which she retired. She became a listening ear and friend to so many of her children s friends as they grew up in Hearne. She was a homemaker and was known throughout her community for her love of cooking, especially her baking skills, and she loved to share with any who came to visit. She loved flowers, especially roses, birds, and she enjoyed her handwork in quilts and embroidery, which she also loved to share with others through her gifts. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and then the First Baptist Church in Hearne and served as Sunday school teacher for a number of years before moving to Brenham in 1988. She will be missed by many, but her family knows that there is no place she would rather spend Christmas than with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her 11 grandchildren. Friends are invited for visitation with the family on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, and for a visitation at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne on Friday, Dec. 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. memorial service.
