Dr. David Theodore Hohlt, 81, of Brenham was transformed from this life into the next on the morning of Saturday, June 15, 2019 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Bryan. Visitation will be held Monday, June 17th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, at 9 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Rehburg followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating.
David was born on February, 24, 1938 in Rehburg, Texas to Charlie and Anita Kiel Hohlt. He was baptized on April 3, 1938 and confirmed on April 6, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He graduated from Burton High School in 1956, graduated from TLC in Seguin, TX with a BA degree in 1960, attended Whartburg Seminary, graduated SWTSU in San Marcus with MA degree in 1969, and graduated from Texas A&M with PHD in 1979. David married Karen Kay Scheel on June 18, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Kay, son Stephen and wife Laurie, granddaughters Allie and Kelsie, son Timothy, brother Charles and wife Dorothy Jean, brother Donald and wife Kate, brother Weldon and wife Connie, sister Florence Smith and sister-in-law Dorothy.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Anita Hohlt, step mother Norma Hohlt, brothers Harold and Raymond Hohlt.
David was a Philsophy/English professor at Blinn College in Brenham. He retired in 1993. After retirement he enjoyed lots of woodworking, growing a garden, and reading. He enjoyed spending time in the woods gathering logs to haul to the family owned sawmill where he would cut them up into lumber. He was a dedicated member of Ebenezer for many years serving in many capacities. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and the grandkids really enjoyed being spoiled by their “Opa”.
Special thank you to his daughter-in-law for all the help through David’s health struggles over the past several years.
