Dr. Humphrey

Dr. Ronald DeVere Humphrey, 79, of Brenham, died Oct. 17, 2017, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston.

Dr. Humphrey was born March 31, 1938, to Walter D. and Edna (Carrroll) Humphrey.

On Feb. 6, 1960, he was married to Julia Hamlett. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War (1963-1966). Dr. Humphrey retired from Prairie View A&M University in 2003, after 33 years as a professor. Dr. Humphrey held memberships in several organizations including American Society of Microbiology, Beta Beta Beta Biological Society (regional director) and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. He was also a member of the Brenham Evening Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Humphrey of Brenham, son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Teresa Humphrey of Naples, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Lara and Mark Deatherage of Carlsbad, CA; and brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Marlene Humphrey of Estes Park, CO; grandchildren, Brett Miller, Ashley Miller, Judy Deatherage and Finn Deatherage; great-grandchild, Maria Till; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charles and Elysee Peavy. Other relatives include: Valerie and Bill Meek, Pamela and Tim Pierce, Jill and Mike Bennett, Jeff and Debby Humphrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
