Dr. King

February 26, 1933 — December 11, 2012

Dr. Earl E. King, 79, of Bryan, was called home by his Heavenly Father on December 11, 2012, following a long hard fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was at home with his children. Earl was born in Miami, FL on February 26, 1933 to Eugene Julius and Elsa Charlotte Drews King. Earl married Marcella Irene Brewer on August 8, 1960. He was a graduate of Miami High School and excelled in the band playing his saxophone. This was a skill he used to help support himself during college playing big band music and jazz. One of his most notable gigs was playing with Frank Sinatra. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, then went on to earn two degrees from the University of Miami and a doctorate from the University of Georgia Go Dawgs!. He taught jr. high, then college, then went on to a long fulfilling career as a scientist and administrator with the Agriculture Research Service of the USDA. He was a devoted father and loved Jesus! He was a proud member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bryan. He had the lifelong spirit of a servant, helping in churches by holding many offices and serving on various boards over the years. He was ever the student, hungry for knowledge especially in science, theology, and history. Some of his favorite hobbies were reading, singing, helping others, writing devotions, rooting for his Cleveland Indians Go Tribe!, and most especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Even in the years following his retirement he was never afraid of learning new things; he built computers, helped pioneer the church web page, avidly followed politics and current events, and was everyone''s choice partner in Trivial Pursuit. Survivors include ex-wife and dearly loved friends Marcella King and Dr. Charles Small of Mississippi; daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and Bobby Horne of Mississippi, Charlotte and Darren Faulkner of Ohio; son and daughter-in-law: Rev.
