Dr. Stafford

Dr. Donald Royce Stafford, 81, passed away on August 3, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Brenham Church of Christ, with Dr. Doug Hall officiating. Interment to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Dr. Donald Stafford was born on September 27, 1937 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Mary Louise Barnard and Jefferson L. Stafford. He graduated in 1955 from Stillwater High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Abilene Christian College, his master’s at Stephen F. Austin, and his doctorate at Oklahoma State University. He worked in higher education for 44 years. He was a counselor at Blinn College and also taught Psychology. Dr. Stafford was employed at Blinn College for over 20 years. Prior to coming to Blinn, he was an administrator at Texas A&M, Cooke County College, and Abilene Christian University, primarily in Student Services. After retiring from Blinn, he substituted for Brenham Independent School District.

Dr. Stafford loved to sing and was a church songleader since he was in high school. He was a member of Brenham Church of Christ, where he was a part of the praise team. He also sang in the Barber Shop Quartet. Dr. Stafford was also an avid exerciser and had been a long-jumper in high school and college.

Survivors include his wife Jimmie Deone (Mayton) Eckhardt; son Scott Stafford and wife Rhonda Stafford; daughters Stacie Fischer, Penny Eubank and husband Nelson; step-sons Donnie Eckhardt and wife Janice, Randy Eckhardt and wife Bridget; step-daughter Kimberly Parks and husband Michael; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and cousin Nancy Ruth Durham.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Donna Beth and Steven Royce Stafford.

Serving as pallbearers are JD Young, Jason Barber, Richard Fletcher, Tom Burras, Gary Foster, and Brian Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made to The Blinn Foundation or ALS Foundation.
