Duane Davis

Duane Newton Davis, 78, of Brenham, died Nov. 24, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Davis was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa, to Dwight Newton and Nevera Refinal Rupe Davis. He was a 1946 graduate of Giddings High School in Giddings, a 1952 graduate of Baylor University BA degree and a 1959 graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary BD degree. In May 1942, he was baptized in Glenmora Baptist Church in Glenmora, Louisiana. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army with the occupation forces in Germany. On Aug. 29, 1950, he was married to Gladys Marlene McBride in First Baptist Church in Brenham. Mr. Davis was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham. He enjoyed roller skating, wood carving and cameo carving. Mr. Davis surrendered to preach and was licensed to preach Sept. 5, 1948 in Giddings. He was ordained June 8, 1950 by the First Baptist Church in Giddings. For the next 17 years, he pastored churches in central and east Texas. Mr. Davis then became a counselor for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. He retired in 1986. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Marlene Davis of Brenham; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Owen and Mary Davis of Burnet and Calvin Joel Davis of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Greg Richmond of College Station; five grandchildren, Leah Winn and husband Roger, Peggy Wells and husband Brian, Thomas Evans and wife Meredith, Carrie Elizabeth Richmond and Anne Celesta Richmond; eight great-grandchildren, Claire Winn, Thomas Winn, Patrick Winn, Margaret Wells, Samuel Wells, William Wells, John Wells and Thomas Tommy Evans; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Dr. Rex Davis of College Station, Bruce and Mollie Davis of Austin, Keith and Rosalie Davis of Winnie and Terry and Marilyn Davis of Giddings; and a sister, Deloris Davis Hill of Round Rock. He is also survived by Jerry and Nonie McBride, Carlton and Betty McBride and Carlton Wayne and Bonnie McBride. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Darren Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Bob Evans, David Trotter, George Hendrickson, Bob Ham, Lou Nuti, Edward Schulte and James Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Marvel and Dwayne Snow. Memorials contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
