Earl Willard Vaughn, 88, of Brenham, died Aug. 27, 2004, in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Vaughn was born April 11, 1916, in Joshua, Johnson County, Texas, to Robert Tillman and Nellie Houston Morgan Vaughn. He was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from Dec. 2, 1942 until Feb. 14, 1946. On Nov. 26, 1982, he married Phyllis Wegner. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville, where he was a member of the Bluebonnet Club. Mr. Vaughn was a truck driver for numerous trucking companies for 54 years. He worked for Cleaners Hangers 17 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Vaughn did dealer trades for LaRoche Chevrolet for nine years. Driving was his passion. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Vaughn of Brenham; sons and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Lou Nugent of Eddy and Michael Nugent of Brenham; daughter, Maxine Stevens of Fremont, California; brother and sister-in-law, Morgan and Laurice Vaughn of Modesto, California; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Waunita McBride of Galveston, Vivian and Wally Wallace of Brighton, Colorado and Leland and Lucy Wegner of McAllen; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel today from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of LaRoche Chevrolet and Cleaners Hangers. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1800 FM 2679, Brenham, TX 77833. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham, 979-836-4564.
