Edgar William Kramer passed away in Houston on April 13 after a brief stay in the hospital. He was born in Prairie Hill, Texas on May 17, 1929 and was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill. He was married to Clarice Kramer for 68 years until her death in 2018. He and Clarice moved to Houston after they were married, and he worked there for Ethyl Corporation for 36 years. Throughout his life Edgar served in church leadership and as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He and Clarice were members of Hope and Park Place Lutheran churches in Houston for more than 40 years. After they returned to Brenham in retirement, they were members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for 24 years.
Edgar was the 10th child of Fritz and Lina Kramer. He graduated from Brenham High School and Blinn College. He and Clarice raised four daughters in Houston. Edgar is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Deborah and George Korte, Karen and Arthur Chal, Connie and TJ Allard, and Pamela and Terry Cole; three grandchildren, Ross Maynard, Christopher Roehl, and Brynna Cole; three step-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Korte Coppage, Kathleen Korte Wang, and Chris Korte; six step-great-grandchildren; and his sister Mildred Richter. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and eight siblings.
Edgar was a gifted athlete, and his passion was golf. He and Clarice were members of Baywood Country Club in Houston and Brenham Country Club, and they played on beautiful courses throughout the country. After retirement, Edgar crafted high-quality custom golf clubs.
He also loved Astros baseball and followed them since they were the Colt 45s. He once played a round of golf with several Astros in Houston. He was thrilled when the team finally won the World Series.
Edgar and Clarice loved to travel. Colorado was a favorite destination for family vacations and fly fishing, and they took cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. Throughout their lives they enjoyed playing cards and dominos with friends and family.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, April 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Phil Fenton at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 27 at 10:00 am with a reception following, and burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandson Ross Maynard, nephews Ronnie Gilbert, James and Dennis Richter, David and Nolan Lehman, and sons-in-law Terry Cole and George Korte.
