Edith Pfeiffer

Edith Lena (Lehmann)Pfeiffer was born Feb 9, 1915, the daughter of John Henry Lehmann and Anna Jahnz Lehmann at home in the New Prospect community, Lee Co, Ledbetter, Texas. Edith's life ended on March 3l, 2016 at her residence near Carmine. She lived an active life for more than 101 years.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top, with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. Burial will follow in the Carmine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday evening at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
Edith was baptized by Pastor George Craby on July 16, l916 in the New Prospect School. On July l9, 1931 she along with her father and sisters Annie and Marie was baptized by Rev. Willie Wilkening in Cummins Creek near Ledbetter. In Runnels County, Miles Texas, she was confirmed into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in l947 by Pastor E Rowalt and in Dec. l949 as a member of the Round Top Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she continued as an active member . Her bible verses were Ephesians 2:8 and John 3:16.
Her education started in the one room school, New Prospect community with teacher Falba Vernon. After graduation from Giddings High School on May 28, 1935, Edith attended Blinn College and graduated from Southwest Texas Teacher's college, San Marcos. She taught school in Lee County, Hills Community and Round Top .
George Pfeiffer and Edith were married on Sept 3, l938 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Warrenton by Pastor Julius Bosshard. After the service they went on a week honeymoon to Carlsbad Cavern, New Mexico.
In l939 they purchased the farm on Hill's Road where they spent their entire life farming and ranching except for two years farming near Miles, Texas. One daughter, Jeanette, was born Sept. 1, l943.
After George's death in l981, Edith traveled extensively as long as her health permitted. Her volunteer service extended to many organizations and regular visits to the nursing homes in La Grange and Giddings. As an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran church she taught the adult Sunday School class, held different offices in the ladies aid, WELCA, Ruth circle and sang in the Triumphant Joy choir until it disbanded.
She was a member of the Carmine Hall, Carmine Volunteer Fire Dept, and Carmine Combined Community Action where she faithfully played dominoes Tuesday through Thursday for 31years. Edith served as secretary for the Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge 151 for over 25 years and served many years as an officer in the AARP Chapter #2317. She was a volunteer for the Round Top Family Library and a mentor for the Round Top Elementary School. When she celebrated her 100th birthday her many awards and certificates were displayed including Humanitarian award and Outstanding Senior Citizen.
Edith is survived by her daughter Jeanette and her husband Fritz Schoenst, grandchildren Sue Schoenst and Kim Sternadel, Staci and husband Nick Brailas and one Brother-in-law Bennie Pfeiffer along with numerous nieces, nephews and many greats. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and their husbands, namely, Annie Hees (Herbert), Marie Schramm(Frank), Hilda Hermann, Leona Spitzenberger (Paul) and Alma Breddin (Edwin)plus her aunts and uncles and her in-laws, namely, Charlie and Elsie Pfeiffer, Alex and Mamie Pfeiffer, Bruno and Tekla Pfeiffer, Rena and Alfred Mertz, Betty and Muff Pfeiffer.
Pallbearers are Charles Newsom, Lonnie Hermann, Otis Pfeiffer, Henk Bergen, Melissa Wickel, Liz Richards and Edwin Breddin Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers are Brenda Callahan, Bernice Mueller, Ora Lee Levien, Gladys Roemer, Margaret Hickson, Linda Mattocks, Doris Gebhard and Carol Procell; her domino partners.
Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
