Edna Boenker Ashorn, 91, of Brenham, widow of Henry Ashorn, died April 1, 2010 in Trinity Medical Center. Mrs. Ashorn was born November 4, 1918 in the William Penn Community of Washington County to Fritz and Henrietta Kettler Boenker. Edna was baptized December 15, 1918 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn by Pastor Alfred Bohat, and confirmed March 25, 1934 in the same church by Pastor C.J. Appel. She attended William Penn area schools. On November 24, 1938, she was married to Henry Ashorn in the same church, also by Pastor Appel. Edna was very active in the Ladies Aid of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother, granny, and great-granny who dearly loved her family. A favorite pastime was gardening and tending to her flowers. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Howard Kuecker of Brenham; grandchildren Kary Kuecker and wife Leslie of Woodway and Wendy Hagerman and husband Eric of Liberty Hill, and great-grandchildren Kailea Kuecker, Lauren Hagerman, and Colin Hagerman. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Henry, on December 15, 1979, and sisters Amanda Holle and Lydia Schwartz. Funeral services for Edna Boenker Ashorn will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, with Pastor Jeffrey King officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Waldo Holle, Donald Holle, Roger Schroeder, Edgar Schwartz, Milton Schwartz, Glen Pohlmeyer, Kenneth Schwartz, Edward Schwartz, Trenton Schwartz, and Raymond Klussmann. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham. 979836-4564.
