Edna Mae Hilton Bray was born Jan. 18, 1918 in Simonton, Texas. She was baptized at St. John s United Church of Christ in Houston, Texas. She married Winfred V. Bray on December 6, 1937 in Houston, Texas. Edna was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by three children: daughter, Geraldine Kinser of Burton; son Vannoy Bray and wife Pat of Spring; son, Cornel Bray and wife Sarina of Bryan, and brother, James Hilton of Houston, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Edna graduated from Reagan High School and AIB School of Banking in Houston. She spent a year in Panama and three years in Japan with her husband, who was in the Air Force. While in Japan, she was assistant director of the Girl Scouts and taught Sunday School. When she came back to the states, she worked as head bookkeeper at Schepps Ready to-Wear, Zales Jewelry and Battlestein s. She was assistant cashier and bookkeeper at Spring Branch Bank for eighteen years. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star and held offices in both. During World War II she lived in Victoria, Texas and did dressmaking so she could stay home with her small children. After retirement she said she worked harder after retirement then before she and her husband moved to Burton, Texas, where they raised cattle and ran a convenience store until Mr. Bray s health failed. Edna took up the art of decorating eggshells which turned into more than a hobby. She won first and second place at the Dallas Egg Show. Her eggs have been on display at the Thomas Charles Gallery in Las Vegas, at the Adams Mark Hotel at Easter time, the Nutcracker in Houston, and on Gentry Square in Spring. She also made a Texas egg for display at the White House in 1996. Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Bray will be held Wednesday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at St. John s United Church of Christ, with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Garden of Memories at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton, Tuesday, August 21 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ of Burton. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home.
