Edna Hedwig Lena Meinkowsky of Carmine, Texas, died December 5, 2018, at the age of 98, in Brenham, Texas. Edna was born August 24, 1920, in the Cayote Community, Bosque County, Texas, daughter of Edward and Aurina(Irene) Schroeder Kleine , August 24, 1920, in Bosque County, Texas. She was baptized on November 21, 1920 at St. John’s Evangelical Church near Cayote by Pastor Theo Pfundt and confirmed March 25, 1934 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clifton, Texas. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 23. She married W.H.(Buddy) Meinkowsky on October 14, 1934 in Zion Evangelical Church in Womack. In 1956 the family moved from Clifton to Round Top-Carmine to live on the family farm. She was a homemaker, worked for Jake’s Eggs for a short time and cleaned church in Burton for many years. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, a member of Circle 1, Sewing Circle and a member of the Round Top Sons of Herman Lodge #151.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018 at St. John United Church of Christ in Burton, with Pastor Charles Stark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Survivors are her two sons Leonard Meinkowsky and wife, Myrt of Carmine, Larry Meinkowsky and wife, Verna of Hallettsville, one daughter Deloris Meinkowsky Koehl and husband Billie of Carmine; grandchildren Melissa Meinkowsky Borecky and husband Marion, Michele Meinkowsky Thayer and husband Glenn of Katy, Troy Meinkowsky and wife, Renee of Odessa, Shawn Meinkowsky and finance Shelly Sommers of Shiner, Brannon Meinkowsky and wife, Jamie of Willis, Jared Meinkowsky and wife, Brooke of Hallettsville, Blaine Koehl and wife, Destre of Brenham, Heath Koehl and wife, Jodie of Carmine and Wade Koehl and wife, Jami of Cypress; great grandchildren, Amber and husband Ryan Kerbow ,Taylor Borecky, Landon, Maddie and Caitlyn Thayer, Kanen and Bryndle Meinkowsky, Brody and Bradie Meinkowsky, Tara and Jacob Jewett, Taylor Morley, Ben, Luke, Ada and Julia Meinkowsky, Braylee, Breyson and Barnes Koehl, Kinsley and Avery Koehl and Kylan, Lainey and Quinn Koehl. Sister Clara Deed Bronstad,and sister and brother in law Geneva Couglin and husband Pat of Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents Ed and Irene Kleine; parent-in-laws Willie and Minnie Meinkowsky; sisters and brother-in-laws Thelma and Johnnie Harris, Elvera and Thomas Conrad, brother Edmond Kleine, brothers and sister-in-laws Melvin and Johnnie Lou Kleine, Ervin and Doris Kleine, brother-in-law Clifford Bronstad, brother-in-law Denver Meinkowsky and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roy and Mildred Meinkowsky.
Serving as pallbearers are Troy Meinkowsky, Melissa Borecky, Michele Thayer, Shawn Meinkowsky, Brannon Meinkowsky, Jared Meinkowsky, Blaine Koehl, Heath Koehl and Wade Koehl. Honorary pallbearers are Marion Borecky, Glenn Thayer, Renee Meinkowsky, Brooke Meinkowsky, Jamie Meinkowsky, Destre Koehl, Jodie Koehl, Jami Koehl, and members of Circle 1 and Sewing Circle.
Memorials may be directed to St. John United Church of Christ in Burton.
