Edna Saeger

Mrs. Edna Rosenbaum Saeger, 91, of Brenham, and the widow of Charles Louis C.L. Saeger, Jr., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 in Trinity Medical Center.

Mrs. Saeger was born July 10, 1916 in Industry, Texas, the daughter of William Rosenbaum and Emma Dippel. She was baptized in Industry and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham by Rev. T. H. Grahmann. She attended New Wehdem School. On Dec. 14, 1939 she married Charles Louis Saeger in Hempstead, Texas. Affectionately known as Mammaw to her family, she dedicated her life to helping and caring for others. After the death of her husband at a young age, Mammaw took on baby-sitting children to help support the household and because she loved it. She also cared for her handicapped son, Ray, for over 70 years and never asked for or expected help. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Mammaw enjoyed sports, especially listening to Brenham Cub football games and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Survivors include her son, Raymond Deutrich, Jr. of Brenham; her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Donald Jaster of Brenham; three grandsons: Mark Jaster and wife Tamara of Brenham; Michael Jaster of Brenham; and Jason Jaster and wife Heidi of Burton; her special great-grandson who was named in her honor, Saeger Layne Jaster of Burton; a sister, Almeida Hinze of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and three sisters and their spouses, a brother-in-law, and seven nephews and one niece.

The funeral service for Edna Saeger will be held Friday, September 14, 2007 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 pm.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Jaster, Michael Jaster, Jason Jaster, Edward Schulte, B.Y. Boeker, and Darrell Kruger.

Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Lutheran Church, 1212 Jefferson St., Brenham. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
