Edna Weiss

Edna Schroeder Weiss, 84, widow of Herbert Weiss, died April 4, 2008 in a local hospital. She was born November 22, 1923, Brenham, TX, the daughter of Fritz and Emma Neumann Schroeder. She was baptized December 23, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church – Prairie Hill and confirmed in the same congregation on April 10, 1937. Edna attended Rocky Hill School. On January 1, 1948 Edna was united in marriage with Herbert Weiss. To this union three children were born: Carolyn, Kenneth, and Betty. Edna was a dedicated and talented homemaker, enjoying gardening, canning, cooking, and sewing. She enjoyed music and was very active in Ladies'' Aid Society in her church. She was a long-time member of St. John''s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, and more recently a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on March 27, 2005, and her siblings: Emma Sommerfield, Alma Schroeder, Selma Westerfeld, Herbert Schroeder, and Clara Burnett. Survivors include her children: daughter Carolyn Hutson and husband Joel of Tyler, son Kenneth Weiss and wife Kathy, and daughter Betty Bugaj and husband Butch, all of Brenham; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred and Eleanor Weiss of Brenham, sister-in-law, Clara Strangmeyer of Texas City, sister-in-law Gladys Weiss of Brenham, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 6-8 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Brenham, and the funeral service will be Tuesday, April 8, 10 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, 1104 Carlee Drive, with Pastor Michael R. Button officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Christ Lutheran Church Youth Program. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Weiss, Thomas Weiss, Craig Stickley, Ryan Eastlick, David Hutson, and Drew Hutson, nephew Ralph Bowler, and great-nephews Tim Seale and Jon Seale.
